Wastewater
Granger-Hunter Improvement District's sanitary sewer collection system is a series of over 300 miles of wastewater lines with more than 6,600 manholes and 12 wastewater pumping stations. The function of this collection system is to ensure the safe, consistent, trouble-free conveyance of wastewater to the Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility for treatment.
The District's Wastewater Department staff is responsible for the inspection, repair and maintenance of the entire collection system. State-of-the-art closed-circuit TV trucks deploy video cameras mounted on remote-controlled tractors with the ability to inspect 360° inside all District wastewater pipelines, ranging in size from 6" to 48" in diameter. These trucks are used to routinely examine collection system lines. Three combination wastewater cleaning trucks, equipped with high pressure jetting hoses and vacuuming capability, are then used to clean the sewer lines in a proactive manner that enables us to avoid many system back-up and flooding issues.
In addition to maintaining pipe lines, the department also manages and maintains twelve wastewater pumping stations which enable the flow of wastewater to the Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility located at approximately 800 West 3500 South, Salt Lake City. There the wastewater is processed, along with that of four other districts and two cities, after which it is reintroduced into the environment in a safe and clean manner, preserving our precious water resources.
